Volunteer with WCGL!
Volunteers play an important role in supporting the work of the Women’s Center of Greater Lansing. Even a small amount of time can make a meaningful difference for the clients we serve.
Individual Volunteering
Individual volunteers help with the day-to-day needs of the center. Some ways volunteers support our work include:
- Assembling hygiene bags for clients
- Sorting and organizing donated items
- Assisting with our clothing closet
- Helping keep donation areas organized
- Providing basic assistance to clients using the computer lab
- Light cleaning or general help around the center as needed
Individual volunteer shifts are two hours long and take place Monday through Thursday between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Volunteers can select the shift times that work best for their schedule within those hours.
If you are interested in volunteering as a general volunteer, please complete the sign-up form below.
Individual Volunteer Sign-Up
If you are interested in volunteering in a professional capacity (such as grant writing, specialized workshops, or other professional services), please email aria@lansingwomen.org instead of filling out the form.
Group Volunteering
Because the Women’s Center operates in a small space with limited capacity, group volunteer opportunities are very limited. In most cases we are not able to accommodate large groups.
Occasionally we may have opportunities for small groups to assist with projects such as organizing donations or preparing hygiene kits.
If your organization, workplace, or student group is interested in volunteering together, please contact us to discuss availability. Please email aria@lansingwomen.org to inquire about group volunteer opportunities.
Volunteer
Whether you have an hour a week or an hour a day that you can contribute, we have something for you to work on. Some of the things our volunteers do include:
- Writing blog articles
- Updating our database
- Writing grant applications
- Being a femtor/mentor for selected clients
- Speaking to one of our support groups
- Doing yard work as needed
- Cleaning
- Becoming a Legacy Donor
- Workshops for staff
- Board of Directors
Groups can volunteer as well! There are several ways groups can get involved:
- General Assistance: general assistance around the center (organizing, bagging pads/tampons, painting, cleaning, etc.)
- Outdoor Services: landscaping, winter services, etc.
- Clothing Boutique: approve donations, sort and place clothing, etc.
- WCGL Street Team: pass out fliers for events, host event booths, contact new/previous sponsors for events, post-event communications to sponsors, etc.
- Product Drive: collect products that clients need and donate them to WCGL (personal hygiene products, winter clothing, etc.)
- Fundraising: Repair/Remodel Projects: assist with specific repair or remodeling projects happening at WCG
